Los Angeles Clippers Practice Facility

Concept development of both a one-story and a two-story option for the Los Angeles Clippers organization. Both alternatives established a strong branding presence to take advantage of the busy Jefferson Boulevard site.

In the two-story design, the pattern of the metal and glass panels on the side of the two-story building would appear to be in motion as one walks or drives by. Banners and colored glass panels are incorporated into the structural wall of the gymnasium. The metal panel and glass wall facing the street curves around to lead from the parking to a lobby space set between the office/training functions and the rectangular mass of the gymnasium building. In the one-story scheme, the ceiling of the lobby extends beyond the building to form a canopy which appears on the underside of a translucent sphere.

The program includes weight training and aerobic exercise areas, hydro-therapy and locker rooms; coaching staff and management offices; video recording and editing for all televised professional and collegiate basketball games and storage; and two full-scale basketball courts. The complex also included lounge spaces for the players and their families, and secured parking.
